PH > ...all that might have been...

The creative period of an artist is a decade. The one of Peter Hammill were the seventies (that didn’t prevent him to give us a nice poker of romantic and valuable albums even in the eighties and nineties, of course). The years 2000s, that Hammill faced at fifty years old, are divided between the return on the road of the band, Van Der Graaf Generator, and the usual amount of intimate discs recorded in perfect solitude, very similar one to each other: you may elect one for all, Consequences, of 2012, which could be enough.

This new album presents, for the duration of three whole CDs, a series of songs (songs?) seamless continuous, recorded during two years in the home studio, taking advantage of the intervals between the concerts with the group and the solo ones.
Three CD in which it is hard to find a note that has not been heard before, or a moment that catch your ears.

While no one can honestly claim to Hammill more of the many masterpieces that he has already donated to contemporary music (probably without the right consideration in return), however, I feel a bit sorry that the artist has withdrawn in the comfortable refuge of the routine, giving up the desire to walk further on up the road.
There is a meaning in the fact that Hammill is the first to declare that he does not listen to much music in these days. When you lose desire to learn, that’s when you get older.

For Fans Only. My advice to lovers of Peter Hammill music is to give a listen to Damien Rice.
